After numerous years of teaching dance in Northwest Arkansas, Eliese Freeman launched DANCE by Eliese in the fall of 2013 as an effort to help out the community of Elkins, AR with their local food pantry. Through DANCE by Eliese, Eliese offered ballroom dance lessons and social dancing events to help raise money and awareness for the community. In June 2014, Eliese opened the doors to her first studio, located off of Wedington Drive in Fayetteville, AR
Ms. Eliese is the owner and director of DANCE by Eliese. Ms. Eliese’s passion for dance was apparent at an early age. Ms. Eliese started dancing in her mother’s studios before she was old enough to talk. After Ms. Eliese’s mother closed her studios, Ms. Eliese continued dance education with the Judith McCarty School of Dancing in Texas. Under Ms. Judy’s direction, Ms. Eliese studied classical ballet (soft shoe, pre-pointe and en pointe), theatrical jazz, broadway and rhythm tap, Spanish dancing and clogging. After moving to Northwest Arkansas, Ms. Eliese continued her dance education in the styles of classical ballet, with training in both RAD and Cecchetti Syllabi, tap, jazz and Spanish dancing. As an adult, Ms. Eliese has trained with in the states of Arkansas, Missouri, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. Additionally, Ms. Eliese has received training from Dr. Kathleen Tenniswood-Powell (Maestro Cecchetti Diploma, Doctor of Dance and Related Arts, Examiner Cecchetti Council of America), Renata Sanford (Examiner Cecchetti Council of America, Broadway Musical Performer and Choreographer, Former Director of Austin Ballet Theatre), Juan Sanchez (Director of Educational Programs- Dance Educators of America), Judith McCarty (Founder of Judith McCarty School of Dancing, former President of the Texas Association of Teachers of Dancing, Chairman of the Board of Examiners TATD), Susan Mayes (M.E. Physical Education, State Awarded Dance and Gymnastics Coach, Instructor – University of Arkansas), Kathy Fomby (Artistic Director Judith McCarty School of Dancing), as well as classes with Leann King (CCA President, Examiner), Dolly Kalepecz (UNLV Faculty), Pattie Obey (Giordano Jazz).
Ms. Eliese has performed, competed and adjudicated in several areas of performing arts including vocal, instrumental, dance, musical theatre, acting and baton twirling. Ms. Eliese performed multiple times with the Texarkana Community Ballet, danced in the World Premiere of “The Nutcracker” with the Tulsa Ballet Company under the direction of Artistic Director Marcello Angolini, both as a classmate to Clara (Marie) and a party-goer. Ms. Eliese has performed in and been a guest choreographer in several productions including various scenes of The Nutcracker: Ballet Class (student), Overture and Party Scene (female child, female child, male child, adult, harlequin/doll, choreographer, choreographer), Battle Scene (mouse, choreographer), Snow (snowflake, choreographer), Land of the Sweets (candy cane), Snow White (Snow White) and Sleeping Beauty (Princess Aurora).
Ms. Eliese is a professional member of SHAPE America (formerly AAHPERD) and certified in adult and pediatric First Aid, AED and CPR. She also holds Instructor Certifications through Dance Educators of America in the areas of Classical Ballet, Tap Dance, Classical and Contemporary Jazz Dance, Modern Dance, Theatrical Acrobatics, Anatomy for Injury Prevention and Music Theory. Ms. Eliese is a current Teacher Member of Cecchetti Council America and Acrobatic Arts Certified Member. She is also a Functional Movement Technique Certified Movement Professional. Ms. Eliese’s teaching experience includes acting as a Guest Teacher in several studios in Arkansas, Instructor of Ballet and Social Ballroom Dancing through Instructional Programs at the University of Arkansas and Member Teacher and Scholarship Auditioner with The Southwest Committee of the Cecchetti Council of America. Ms. Eliese’s students include dance teachers in Arkansas and Missouri, Arkansas Scholarship Pageant Title Holders and undergraduates in various performing arts colleges.
In her spare time, Ms. Eliese enjoys playing with her dog, paddling down Arkansas rivers and reading in her hammock.
At DANCE by Eliese, we believe it is important to always provide versatile methods of instruction in order to cater to many learning styles. Therefore it is equally important to have guest instructors and teaching assistants to help promote correctness and consistency in technique, while providing variety in instruction.
Ms. Robbie, ballet instructor for DANCE by Eliese, has trained in Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Michigan and London, England under certifying parties of Dance Masters of America, Dance Caravan, Cecchetti Council of America and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Ms. Robbie owned two dance studios in Southwest Arkansas before returning to school to attain her MA in Mathematics. After ultimately retiring from a career in teaching in public schools, Ms. Robbie has returned to teaching dance and we couldn't be more excited!
Welcomed to the team in 2016, Ms. Kayla is the Hip Hop and Contemporary Hip Hop teacher for DANCE by Eliese. Ms. Kayla teaches beginning through advanced level Hip Hop for all ages.
Ms. Olivia joined the DANCE by Eliese staff in 2017, but has been a part of the family since the beginning. Ms. Olivia teaches Jazz, Pre-School Combo and Acrobatics. She also holds her Acrobatic Arts Module 1 Teacher Certification.
