Ballet is characterized by light, graceful, fluid movements. We follow the Cecchetti syllabus in ballet to ensure that our students progress safely through the different levels of ballet dancing. Cecchetti training is a rigorous method which pays careful attention to the laws of anatomy. It develops all of the qualities essential to the dancer: balance, poise, strength, elevation, elasticity, “ballon”, etc. It is classic in its purity and clear-cut style. We offer beginner ballet classes for ages 3 and up. Ballet dance classes last from 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the level. Dress: ballet shoes, pink/black tights, solid leotard, hair in bun and out of face.
Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by using the sound of one's tap shoes hitting the floor (or other surfaces) as a percussive instrument. We primarily follow Al Gilbert’s graded tap dancing syllabus, which incorporates classic and modern music and tap dancing. We offer beginner tap classes for ages 3 and up. Tap dance classes last from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the level. Dress: tap shoes, pink/black tights, solid leotard, hair in ponytail and out of face, dance shorts optional.
Jazz dance is a classification shared by a broad range of dance styles, including contemporary and traditional. For our jazz classes, we follow the syllabus as outlined by Gus Giordano. Since jazz has such strong roots in ballet, it is required that our jazz students be 8 years old and take at least one ballet class with us. Jazz dance classes last from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the level. Dress: jazz shoes, pink/black tights, solid leotard, hair in ponytail and out of face, dance shorts optional.
Acrobatics is the performance of extraordinary feats of balance, agility, and motor coordination. To ensure safety, we require acrobatic students to be 5 years of age and take at least one ballet class. Our acrobatic dance classes follow the Acrobatic Arts syllabus and last from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the level. Dress: barefoot, no tights or footless/convertible tights, solid leotard, hair in bun and out of face, dance shorts.
Hip Hop Dance
Hip-hop dance is a broad category that includes a variety of urban styles. The older dance styles that were created in the 1970s include uprock, breaking, and the funk styles. Hip hop cultivates creativity in our dancers. Hip hop dance is offered to students 5 years and older and lasts 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the level. Dress: dance sneakers or jazz shoes shoes, dance shorts or pants, fitted top, hair in ponytail and out of face.
Stretching supplies vast benefits to your body as well as your mind. Our stretch class focuses on proper anatomical movements to help release tension and increase blood flow and flexibility. This class is available to all ages and lasts 30 minutes. Dress: socks or barefoot, comfortable stretch pants, fitted top, hair in ponytail and out of face.
Ballroom dance refers to a set of partner dances, which are enjoyed both socially and competitively around the world. We offer lessons in Waltz, Foxtrot, East-Coast Swing, Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Country and Western and various others. Ballroom is offered in sessions and focuses on one dance style per session. Dress: ballroom shoes or socks, comfortable pants and fitted top, hair in ponytail and out of face.
Baton twirling is an activity involving the manipulation of a metal rod and the human body to a coordinated routine and is similar to rhythmic gymnastics or color guard (flag spinning). Entry level baton lessons last 30 minutes and offered to students ages 7 and up. Dress: Tennis shoes (canvas keds preferable), dance shorts and fitted tank top or tights and solid leotard with dance shorts, hair in ponytail and out of face.
